In 2008 whilst at the shows I said to my Mum and Dad that I liked the Crested Budgerigars and would like to have some. Well Mum and Dad searched the Country for some to get me started eventually they found a gentleman with some for sale and they bought me 7. I paired some of these together and put some of them to my normal birds.
They are called crested budgerigars because of the shape and direction of the feathers on the top of their heads. The full circular crests look like they are wearing a hat and this is what I love about them and makes them stand out from any other variety as all other varieties are different because of colour of either the wings or body. The crested is the only one that has different feather direction.
My first pairing of a tufted crest hen to a Normal violet/skybue cock has produced me 3 crests out of 5 babies which is very luck indeed. One of the babies is a cobalt half circular cock. This is a photo of him below as a baby.
MY COBALT COCK'S BROTHER A TUFTED OPALINE COBALT COCK WAS THE FIRST CRESTED TO BE SHOWN BY ME AND AT HIS FIRST SHOW DEWSBURY BUDGERIGAR SOCIETY CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 2009 HE TOOK THE CRESTED BUDGERIGAR CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE FOR THE BEST CREST IN SHOW WOW!!!
On the 26-27th September 2009 I took my crested half circular cobalt cock to the World Championships were he won the CC and BEST CRESTED IN SHOW. Below is a picture of him with me at the world show
I THINK IT IS VERY EXCITING TO LOOK IN THE NESTBOXES AND CATCH THE BABIES TO SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY FEATHER MOVEMENT ON THE TOP OF THEIR HEADS AS THEIR FEATHERS COME THROUGH. I AM REALLY ENJOYING BREEDING THIS VARIETY.
