THE ABOVE PICTURE IS OF SLUGGSY HE WAS THE FIRST BIRD I BRED WITH MY OWN RING ON. HE HAS HAD MANY WINS A CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWS FOR ME.
Well as many of you will know my Mum,Dad,Grandma and Grandad have had budgerigars for a long time showing as the Norwood Stud so I have grown up with the birds.
In 2006 we bought an African Grey parrot to have in the house as a pet. After having "Albert" for a few months my Mum became very ill, could hardly walk and her breathing was bad. She had loads of tests at the hospital but it wasn't until my Grandma was looking on the internet one evening and came across a condition called Hypersensitivity Pneumoniosis that we realised that it was Albert who was the main cause of her problems due to the dust he was producing from his feathers. Anyway Albert had to be rehomed which made us all very sad as we loved him very much.
Provided Mum stayed out of the budgie shed aswell she gradually got better. She eventually found that if she wore a mask she could spend a little time in the birdroom but not enough to be able to look after them fully.
Mum and Dad had just about decided that after 30 years in the hobby they had to sell up when I said that I would like to get more involved and show some birds of my own.
So it was decided that I could have the birds at our shed and Grandad would keep the Norwood Stud going at his end. The rules were that I wasn't allowed to show a bird with anyone elses ring on but my own so I made myself a member of the Budgerigar Society when I was 8 years old and paired some birds up to try and get a few with my ring on to show. Plus I had to do alot of the feeding etc.. with a bit of help from Mum and Dad on days when I had lots of homework to do.
My ring number arrived N1717.
